This past year Tipperary Allianz Cumann na
mBunscol has enjoyed great success as an organization.
Tipperary Allianz Cumann na mBunscol ran an
extremely successful Hurling and
Camogie Championship in 2013.
These Championships culminated on the 6th and 7th of June
last, at Semple Stadium, for the Allianz Cumann na mBunscol County Finals.
We had two days of fantastic hurling and
camogie, which produced very exciting Finals.
There were winner’s medals, and runners-up
medals, for all panel members of the schools competing in the Finals. Everyone
who took part really enjoyed their day out in the Cathedral of Hurling, Semple
The Under 11 Hurling and Camogie Championships
were run in accordance with the 2011 rule change about the implementation of Go
Games, from the under 12 grade down. We organized Go Games Competitions for
schools to play in the Under 11 grade, and created a competition for schools
who wanted to enter two teams. The aim of this was to increase the number of
children who get to play in all games. The rules were that all substitutes were
to be brought on at half time. Players were not allowed to solo the ball. They
could tap it on their hurley and then let it off. It made for very quick and
exciting games. The number of schools competing in Under 11 Hurling has risen
from 50 to over 90, in the 3 years that we’ve used the Go Games model. In Under
11 Camogie the number of schools participating has risen from 17 to over 50.
This is a serious increase in the number of schools playing, and the number of
children who get to play in all games. The 2013 competitions were run off as Blitzes,
as in the previous two years. When it came to the County Finals the Under 11
matches were played on a smaller sized pitch in Semple Stadium, with two
matches going on at the same time. Schools have expressed their satisfaction
with how the Go Games Competitions are going. There’s less pressure on the
children to win, when they play in Go Games. The children enjoy playing in these
Blitzes and we hope to continue to use this Model going forward. When it came
to the County Finals all school mentors, both in Under 11 and Under 13 games,
wore the Respect Initiative bibs on the sideline.
All in all there were 28 County Finals,
over two days, in Semple Stadium. Thankfully
everything went very well thanks to the co-operation of the teachers, the
schools, the GDAs, the TY Students (who helped with the scoreboard and as
umpires/linesmen), the Semple Stadium ground-staff and the Allianz Cumann na
mBunscol Officer Board.

A DVD was produced, by Michael Trehy,
Fethard, of all the finals, and this proved to be very popular among the many
parents and schools who bought it.
Primary Game was a great success, once again, in
Tipperary lined out boys and girls football
teams, in Killarney, against Kerry on the 26th of May. The young Tipperary boys and girls
footballers played with pride, determination and skill.
In Hurling, and Camogie, Tipperary had a great
day out in the Gaelic Grounds, Limerick, on June 9th in the Munster
semi final. The young hurling and camogie players played superbly on the day.
For all children it was their first time
playing for mighty Tipperary and it is a day they will remember forever. All 44
children did themselves, their parents, their schools, their clubs and their
county proud. Well done to each and every one of them!
Congratulations to all the children who
pulled on that special Tipperary jersey this Summer for the first, but
definitely not the last, time.
Sincere thanks to all our selectors who
gave a huge commitment to the Primary Game this year.

Tipperary Allianz Cumann na mBunscol has
operated a very successful equipment scheme over the past twenty years. It is
open to all schools in Tipperary. There is an equipment night organized by
Gerry McDonnell where schools come to order their equipment for the year.
Approximately 1,400 helmets and 2,000 hurleys are subsidized annually. The
volume of the equipment subsidized and distributed by Tipperary Allianz Cumann
na mBunscol is the highest in the Country, North or South.
A full range of equipment useful to
coaching within schools is offered, with an updated list becoming available
each year. Tipperary Allianz Cumann na mBunscol is very grateful to the Tipperary
County Board for the 11,000 euro grant it gets annually from them. We are also very
grateful to the Croke Park Helmet and Hurley Scheme, for the 14,000 euro we
receive from them annually.
I would like to thank all the teachers in
Tipperary for all their great work and co-operation, over the past year.
I would like to sincerely thank Dinny
Maher, the Tipperary Games Promotion Manager, and the GDAs (Andy Ryan, John
Cummins, Tadhg O’Connor and Kevin Halley) who greatly helped us throughout the
year. They particularly helped us with our County Final days and our Under 11 Go
Games blitzes. I would like to personally thank Andy Ryan for being of such great
assistance on County Final days. He provided us with TY students, who worked
for 2 long days as umpires, linemen and score board operators. They really helped
us ensure everything ran off very smoothly. We look forward to working with the
GDAs, and Dinny Maher, over the next 12 months.
I’d like to thank the referees, umpires,
linesmen and caretakers who facilitated the smooth running of our games
throughout the year.
Thank you to the teachers who acted as co-ordinators
of the various Blitzes we ran throughout the year.
I want to sincerely thank the Selectors of
the Primary Game who gave us huge commitment. The teachers in question gave up
a lot of their free time time to ensure the children had a day out they will
never forget. Tipperary Allianz Cumann na mBunscol is hugely appreciative of
the efforts of these teachers.
Well done to ALL the boys and girls who
played with such pride, skill and determination every time they pulled on their
school jersey, over the past 12 months.
We would like to say a big thanks to Cumann
na mBunscol Sponsors Allianz for all their generous sponsorship over the years.
We greatly appreciate everything they have done for us.
Bhi bliain iontach aris, ag Cumann na

I wish to sincerely thank the Tipperary County

Allianz Cumann na mBunscol.
We greatly appreciate their assistance and
help. Without their support we wouldn’t be able to function as well as we do.
Thank you to Secretary Tim Floyd, Chairman Sean
Nugent and everyone in the County Board, for the tremendous work they do for
our National Games, in Tipperary.
